I bought your book and have been reading it on the train to and from work each day. I am also a keen sci-fi fan, and I have enjoyed the structure of your book, with the childhood reminiscinces particularly interesting. I am a little older than you, and at around the age of five and six was enjoying Astro Boy, Atom Ant, Space Patrol (the one with puppets), the Hanna-Barbera Fantastic 4 cartoon, and later The Thunderbirds, Land of the Lost (Sid and Marty Kroft), and Weekend daytime TV movies like Forbidden Planet, Destination Moon, When Worlds Collide. A 1970 National Geographic article on the solar system, which my father showed me, was also very inluential, and lots of astronomy books followed. Star Trek and Star Wars are high-school memories.

Hi Greg, huge apologies, I’ve only just seen your kind comments! Thanks for dropping me a line, that’s very sweet of you, and I’m glad you enjoyed the book. Yeah, I was obsessed with space and the solar system as a kid in the 1970s, too… I guess the space race and the moon landings were still pretty fresh in peoples’ memories. Exciting times!
